How Does a Cable Gate Work?

Published in Access Control Systems 2 mins read

A cable gate operates by using a retractable cable barrier to secure an entry point.

Understanding Cable Gate Operation

Cable gates provide a physical barrier across an entrance, typically used for security or access control. Their core function involves a sturdy cable that can be lowered to allow passage and raised to block it.

The Mechanism Explained

Based on how they function, the process involves specific mechanical actions:

  • Opening: To open the gate and allow access, a motor housed inside the master post drives down a latch, releasing the cable to lie flat on the ground. This action removes the barrier, permitting vehicles or individuals to pass over the now-lowered cable.
  • Closing and Securing: Once access is no longer needed, the gate automatically re-secures the entry. After a vehicle has passed through, the cable is automatically drawn back up and locked again inside the post to re-secure the entry. This restores the physical barrier across the access point.

This automated process ensures that the gate quickly transitions between allowing passage and maintaining security.
