AC acne, more formally known as acne conglobata, is a rare and severe form of nodulocystic acne.
It's characterized by:
- Interconnected comedones: These are large, often double or triple, blackheads or whiteheads that connect under the skin.
- Cysts: Large, pus-filled bumps beneath the skin.
- Inflammatory nodules: Painful, solid lumps under the skin's surface.
- Deep abscesses: Pus-filled pockets that burrow deep into the skin.
AC acne typically appears on the:
- Face
- Shoulders
- Back
- Chest
- Upper arms
- Buttocks
- Thighs
Because it is so severe, acne conglobata can cause significant disfigurement and scarring. It's also often painful.
