Scoring the ICAP (Inventory for Client and Agency Planning) involves assigning a numerical value to each item within its adaptive behavior domains based on the individual's ability to perform specific tasks independently.
The scoring method for each item is straightforward and utilizes a scale from 0 to 3. This score is determined by evaluating the applicant's ability to perform the task without help or supervision.
Understanding the ICAP Scoring Scale (0 to 3)
Each item on the ICAP is assessed to see how well and how independently the individual can complete the described task. The scores reflect different levels of proficiency and support needed:
- 3: Indicates the individual performs the task routinely and independently, requiring no help or supervision.
- 2: Indicates the individual performs the task with occasional help or supervision.
- 1: Indicates the individual performs the task with frequent help or supervision.
- 0: Indicates the individual cannot perform the task, even with help, or requires maximum physical assistance to complete it.
These individual item scores are then used to calculate scores within the ICAP's four adaptive behavior domains. Items within these domains are structured by average difficulty, progressing from skills typically seen in infancy through to those expected of mature adults. The composite scores from these domains provide an overall picture of an individual's adaptive behavior strengths and needs.
