How do I update Adobe AE?

Published in Adobe After Effects 2 mins read

To update Adobe After Effects (AE), follow these steps:

  1. Open the Creative Cloud Desktop Application: This is your central hub for managing Adobe applications. It's usually found in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS).

  2. Locate After Effects: In the Creative Cloud application, find After Effects in your installed apps list.

  3. Initiate the Update: If an update is available, you'll see an "Update" button next to After Effects. Click it to begin the update process.

  4. Advanced Options (Optional but Recommended): A dialog box titled "You're updating to After Effects (version)" will appear. Select "Advanced Options."

  5. Preserve Previous Versions (Recommended): Inside the "Advanced Options" menu, disable the "Remove Old Versions" setting. This allows you to keep your current version of After Effects in case the update introduces compatibility issues or bugs you need to avoid temporarily. If you choose to remove it, your old version will be uninstalled.

  6. Download and Install: After configuring your desired options, proceed to download and install the latest version of After Effects. The Creative Cloud app will handle the download and installation automatically.

  7. Launch After Effects: Once the installation is complete, launch the updated version of After Effects.

By following these steps, you'll successfully update Adobe After Effects while having the option to keep your previous version for added security and flexibility.
