How do I delete Adobe Animate projects?

To delete Adobe Animate projects, you'll need to delete the project files from your computer's file system. Adobe Animate itself doesn't offer a "delete project" feature within the software because it simply opens and saves files. Here's how to do it:

  1. Locate the Project File: Find the folder where you saved your Adobe Animate project file (.fla or .xfl). Remember where you saved the project when you initially created it.

  2. Close Adobe Animate (If Open): Ensure the project is closed in Adobe Animate and that the application itself is closed to avoid any potential file access issues.

  3. Delete the Project Folder or File:

    • If you want to delete the entire project: Delete the entire folder containing the .fla or .xfl file and any associated assets (images, sounds, etc.).
    • If you only want to delete the .fla or .xfl file: Delete the specific .fla or .xfl file from the folder.

  4. Empty the Recycle Bin/Trash: After deleting the folder or file, empty your computer's Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (macOS) to permanently remove the project.

Deleting Scenes within a Project (Not the Entire Project):

If you only want to delete specific scenes within an open Adobe Animate project, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Project: Open the Adobe Animate project (.fla or .xfl) containing the scene(s) you want to delete.

  2. Open the Scene Panel: Go to Window > Scene to open the Scene panel.

  3. Select the Scene: In the Scene panel, select the scene you want to delete.

  4. Delete the Scene: Right-click on the selected scene name in the Scene panel. Choose "Delete Scene" from the context menu.

  5. Confirm Deletion: A confirmation dialog box will appear. Confirm that you want to delete the scene.

  6. Save the Project: After deleting the scene, save the Adobe Animate project (File > Save) to save the changes.

Important Notes:

  • Deleting a project (folder or .fla/.xfl file) is permanent after emptying the Recycle Bin/Trash, so be sure you have backups if needed.
  • Deleting a scene within a project is reversible only until you save the project. Once saved, the scene is permanently removed from the project.
