How do I open a layer in Illustrator?

Published in Adobe Illustrator Layers 1 min read

To open a layer in Adobe Illustrator, you need to access the Layers panel. Here's how:

  1. Locate the Layers Panel: The Layers panel is typically located on the right side of your Illustrator workspace. It's usually grouped with other panels.

  2. If the Layers Panel is Missing: If you don't see the Layers panel, go to the top menu and select Window > Layers. This will open the Layers panel.

Once the Layers panel is open, you'll see all the layers in your Illustrator document. Each new document starts with a default layer named "Layer 1." You can expand a layer to view the sublayers and objects it contains by clicking the arrow next to the layer name. To rename a layer, double-click the layer name in the Layers panel, type the new name, and press Enter (Windows) or Return (macOS).
