There are several ways to create multiple shapes within a single layer in Adobe Illustrator. Here's how:
-
Drawing Directly: Simply draw each shape using the various shape tools (Rectangle Tool, Ellipse Tool, etc.). By default, Illustrator will create each new shape you draw on the currently selected layer. Make sure you haven't accidentally created a new layer.
-
Selecting and Moving: If the shapes are already created but on different layers, use the Selection Tool (V) to select the shapes you want to combine into one layer. You can select multiple shapes by clicking and dragging a selection box around them, or by holding down the Shift key and clicking each shape individually. You can also select them in the Layers Panel.
-
Dragging in the Layers Panel: Select the shapes you want to move in the Layers Panel. Then, click and drag the selected shapes to the desired layer. Make sure you drag them onto the layer name, not above or below it, or you'll just change their stacking order.
Illustrator automatically creates new shapes on the currently active layer unless you specify otherwise by selecting a different layer before drawing. This functionality allows you to easily group related shapes together within a single, organized layer.
