How Do I Move a Layer to the Front in Illustrator?

Published in Adobe Illustrator 1 min read

To bring a layer to the front in Adobe Illustrator, use the "Bring to Front" command. This will place the selected layer on top of all other layers in your document.

Steps to Bring a Layer to the Front:

  1. Select the Object: First, select the object or objects within the layer you wish to bring to the front. You can do this by clicking on the object directly on the artboard or by selecting the layer in the Layers panel.

  2. Access the Arrange Menu: Go to the "Object" menu in the top menu bar.

  3. Choose Arrange: Within the "Object" menu, select "Arrange."

  4. Select Bring to Front: From the "Arrange" submenu, choose "Bring to Front." Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + ] (Windows) or Shift + Command + ] (Mac).

This action will move the selected object(s) to the very top of the stacking order, ensuring it appears in front of all other objects in your Illustrator document. The video reference explains this visually from 0:01 to 0:40.
