How do you change the radial gradient in Illustrator?

Published in Adobe Illustrator 2 mins read

To change the radial gradient in Illustrator, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Gradient Panel: Navigate to Window > Gradient or select the Gradient tool from the toolbar and click on your shape. This will display the Gradient panel.

  2. Select Radial Gradient Type: In the Gradient panel, ensure the "Radial Gradient" type is selected. The icon usually looks like a circle inside another circle.

  3. Modify the Gradient Stops:

    • Click on the circle below the gradient slider that represents a color stop.
    • Use the Color panel, Swatches panel, or the Eyedropper tool to choose a new color for that stop. You can adjust the position of the color stops along the slider to change the gradient's blend.
  4. Adjust the Gradient's Center and Radius (using the Gradient tool on the artwork): Select the Gradient tool (G) and click and drag on your artwork. This allows you to:

    • Move the center point: By clicking and dragging the center circle.
    • Change the radius/size of the gradient: By dragging the outer point.
    • Adjust the angle (though radial gradients typically don't benefit from an angle change): Some adjustments might offer a slightly elliptical distortion depending on the version.
  5. Add More Colors: Click anywhere beneath the gradient slider to add more color stops. Then select the new stop and apply a color.

  6. Remove Colors: Click on a color stop and drag it down and off the gradient slider to remove it.

By adjusting these elements, you can fully customize the look and feel of your radial gradient in Adobe Illustrator.
