How do I add a rolling edit tool in Premiere Pro?

Published in Adobe Premiere Pro Editing 2 mins read

The rolling edit tool in Premiere Pro is already part of the standard toolbar, you just need to select it.

Here's how to access and use the Rolling Edit Tool:

  1. Locate the Toolbar: The Rolling Edit tool is located in the Premiere Pro toolbar. This toolbar is usually found on the left side of the interface.

  2. Select the Tool: Look for the icon that appears to show two clips being adjusted at their adjoining edit point. Click on it to select the Rolling Edit tool. You may need to click and hold another icon to reveal related tools, which would include the rolling edit tool.

  3. Using the Tool: With the Rolling Edit tool selected, you can now adjust the edit point between two adjacent clips on your timeline. Click and drag the edit point to simultaneously shorten one clip and lengthen the other, keeping the overall duration of the two clips constant. This allows you to fine-tune the cut without affecting subsequent clips in your sequence. For example, you can make clip 1 a little longer and clip 2 a little shorter at the same time by dragging their connecting edit point.
