How do I add an Adjustment Layer in Premiere Pro?

Published in Adobe Premiere Pro 2 mins read

To add an adjustment layer in Premiere Pro, you need to create it through the "New Item" button. Here's how:

  1. Locate the Project Panel: Ensure you have your project open in Premiere Pro. The Project Panel is usually found in the lower-left corner of the interface.

  2. Find the "New Item" Icon: In the Project Panel, look for a small icon at the bottom that resembles a piece of paper being peeled back. This is the "New Item" button.

  3. Select "Adjustment Layer": Click on the "New Item" button. A menu will appear. From this menu, select "Adjustment Layer."

  4. Customize (Optional): A dialog box will appear, allowing you to customize the settings of the adjustment layer, such as its dimensions and frame rate. Typically, you can just accept the default settings, which match your sequence.

  5. Drag to Timeline: Once created, the adjustment layer will appear in your Project Panel as a clip. Drag this clip from the Project Panel onto your timeline, placing it above the video tracks you want to affect.

  6. Adjust Length: Adjust the length of the adjustment layer on the timeline to cover the duration of the video you want to modify.

Now, any effects or color corrections you apply to the adjustment layer will affect all video layers beneath it within the timeline duration.
