How to Copy and Paste Mask Path in Premiere Pro?

Published in Adobe Premiere Pro 2 mins read

Here's how to copy and paste a mask path in Premiere Pro:

  1. Apply the Same Effect: First, apply the same effect (e.g., Gaussian Blur, Color Correction) to both clips where you want to use the mask. This is important because the mask is tied to a specific effect. Drag and drop the effect from the Effects panel onto the desired clip in your timeline.

  2. Select the Effect with the Mask: In the Effect Controls panel, locate the effect that contains the mask you want to copy.

  3. Copy the Mask Path: In the Effect Controls panel, click on the effect (e.g., Gaussian Blur). Then, within the effect's properties, find the "Mask Path" property. Right-click on "Mask Path". Select "Copy".

  4. Select the Target Effect: In the Effect Controls panel, select the same effect on the other clip where you want to paste the mask.

  5. Paste the Mask Path: Right-click on "Mask Path" in the second effect and select "Paste". The mask should now appear on the second clip, using the same path and settings as the original.

Example:

Let's say you've created a mask on a clip with a Gaussian Blur applied to it. You now want to apply the same mask to another clip, also using a Gaussian Blur.

  • Apply the Gaussian Blur effect to both clips.
  • Create and adjust the mask on the first clip's Gaussian Blur settings.
  • Copy the mask path from the first clip's Gaussian Blur in the Effect Controls panel.
  • Select the second clip's Gaussian Blur in the Effect Controls panel.
  • Paste the mask path onto the second clip's Gaussian Blur.

Now, both clips will have the same mask applied to the Gaussian Blur effect.
