How to Duplicate a Group in Affinity Designer?

Published in Affinity Designer Groups 2 mins read

Duplicating a group in Affinity Designer is a straightforward process primarily done through the Layers panel.

You can easily duplicate a group by right-clicking on it in the Layers panel and selecting the 'Duplicate' option.

Step-by-Step Guide to Duplicating a Group

The most common and direct way to duplicate a group in Affinity Designer involves using the Layers panel. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Locate the Layers Panel: Ensure your Layers panel is visible. If not, go to View > Studio > Layers to show it.
  2. Select the Group: In the Layers panel, find the group you wish to duplicate.
  3. Access the Context Menu: Right-click (or Control-click on Mac) directly on the group name in the Layers panel.
  4. Choose Duplicate: From the context menu that appears, select the Duplicate option.

Affinity Designer will instantly create an exact copy of the selected group and place it directly above the original group in the Layers panel.

  • Tip: Once duplicated, the new group is automatically selected, allowing you to immediately move, resize, or further edit it independently of the original.

Repositioning the Duplicated Group

After duplicating, you might want to move the new group to a different position in your layer stack or on your canvas.

  • On the Layers panel, you can click the duplicated group and drag it up or down to change its stacking order relative to other layers and groups.
  • You can also select the duplicated group on the canvas using the Move Tool (V) and drag it to a new visual position within your design.

This method provides a quick and efficient way to create copies of complex arrangements of objects and layers without needing to recreate them manually.
