How do you move the artboard in Affinity Designer?

Published in Affinity Designer 2 mins read

You can move an artboard in Affinity Designer by selecting it and then dragging it using either the Artboard Tool or the Move Tool.

Here's a breakdown of the methods:

Methods for Moving an Artboard:

  • Using the Artboard Tool:

    1. Select the Artboard Tool from the Tools panel (usually on the left).
    2. Click on the artboard you want to move. This selects the artboard.
    3. Click and drag the artboard to its new location.
  • Using the Move Tool:

    1. Select the Move Tool from the Tools panel (usually the arrow icon).
    2. Make sure the artboard is selected. You can select it by clicking directly on the artboard's name in the Layers panel or by clicking on the artboard itself on the canvas (ensure "Auto-select" in the context toolbar is enabled and set to either "Layer" or "Artboard").
    3. Click and drag the artboard to its desired position.

Additional Information:

  • When moving an artboard, any content within the artboard will move with it.
  • You can precisely position the artboard by using the Transform panel and entering specific X and Y coordinates.
  • If you're having trouble selecting the artboard directly on the canvas, ensure that no objects within the artboard are selected instead. Clicking on the artboard’s edge (the defining border) is usually a safe way to select just the artboard.
