How do you create an Animation preset in After Effects?

Published in After Effects Animation 2 mins read

To create an Animation preset in After Effects, select the layers and properties you want to include in the preset, and then choose Animation > Save Animation Preset from the menu.

Here's a breakdown of the process:

  1. Select the Layers and Properties: In your After Effects composition, select the layers that contain the animated properties you want to save as a preset. You can also select specific properties (like Position, Rotation, Scale, etc.) within those layers if you don't want to save the entire layer's animation.

  2. Navigate to the Save Animation Preset Option: Once you have your desired layers and properties selected, go to the top menu bar and click on Animation.

  3. Choose "Save Animation Preset": From the Animation dropdown menu, select Save Animation Preset. This will open the "Save" window.

  4. Name and Save Your Preset: The save window will default to the User Presets folder for your version of After Effects. Give your animation preset a descriptive name. It's a good idea to organize your presets with subfolders within the User Presets folder. Click Save.

Now, your animation preset is saved and ready to be applied to other layers in future projects. You can find your preset in the Effects & Presets panel under the Animation Presets category.
