How Do I Turn On Track Motion in After Effects?

Published in After Effects Tracking 2 mins read

To activate track motion in Adobe After Effects, you need to use the Tracker panel. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Tracker Panel: Go to the Window menu and select Tracker. This will open the Tracker panel, which is where you control the tracking options.

  2. Select Your Video Clip: In your composition, select the video clip that you wish to track. You should also move the playhead to the beginning of the clip because tracking should always start from the first frame.

  3. Choose Track Motion: In the Tracker panel, click on the Track Motion button. This will initiate the motion tracking process and prepare After Effects for analysis of the selected layer.

  4. Adjust Tracking Point: The tracker analysis box will appear and this is where you can alter the zoom of the analysis point to get more accurate results. Adjust the box to be precise over the item you wish to track.

By following these steps, you will successfully turn on track motion in After Effects, enabling you to analyze the motion in your video clip and apply tracking data to other layers or properties.
