How do I copy an animation layer in After Effects?

Published in After Effects 2 mins read

To copy animation layer effects in After Effects, you can easily use the copy and paste functionality. Here's how:

  1. Select the Layer: In your After Effects composition, select the layer that contains the animation effects you want to copy.

  2. Reveal the Effects: Press EE (double tap 'E' key) to reveal all the effects applied to the selected layer in the Timeline panel. This ensures you copy all the effects and not just some.

  3. Select All Effects: Click on the first effect, then hold Shift and click on the last effect to select all effects. Alternatively, press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Command+A (Mac) with the effects highlighted to select all.

  4. Copy the Effects: Press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Command+C (Mac) to copy all the selected layer effects.

  5. Select the Target Layer: Select the layer to which you want to paste the copied effects.

  6. Paste the Effects: Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) to paste the effects onto the target layer.

Now, the target layer will have the same animation effects as the source layer. Remember to adjust timing or specific values as needed to suit the target layer's properties.
