To invert white to black (or any color to its opposite) in Adobe After Effects, use the Invert effect.
Using the Invert Effect
Here's how to apply the Invert effect in After Effects:
- Select your layer: In the Timeline panel, select the layer you want to invert.
- Apply the Invert effect: Go to Effect > Color Correction > Invert. Alternatively, you can find the "Invert" effect in the Effects & Presets panel (Window > Effects & Presets).
- Adjust settings (optional): In the Effect Controls panel (Window > Effect Controls), you can adjust the settings for the Invert effect:
- Channel: By default, the Invert effect applies to the RGB channels, effectively inverting all colors. You can change this to target specific channels like Red, Green, Blue, Alpha, Hue, Lightness, or Saturation. Experimenting with these can yield interesting and unexpected results. For example, inverting only the Saturation can introduce new colors to your image.
The Invert effect will then swap the color values of the selected layer. White areas will become black, black areas will become white, and all other colors will be transformed to their complementary colors.
