Small planes are loud because they have limited space to dampen sound and wind force.
Small aircraft often seem exceptionally loud compared to larger commercial airliners. This is primarily because of the following reason:
- Limited Space for Sound Absorption: Just as small planes are more susceptible to turbulence because they have less space to absorb wind force, they also have less space to absorb sound. This means the noise generated by the engine and propeller has fewer opportunities to be muffled.
According to Bush, passengers on small planes should have adequate ear protection, especially kids, whose ears are more sensitive.
