The AV-8A (first generation) Harrier was reportedly one of the most difficult aircraft to fly.
According to historical accounts, in the early days of the Harrier, only highly-selected pilots were permitted to fly them. Unfortunately, despite rigorous selection processes, many of these pilots tragically lost their lives while piloting the aircraft. This speaks to the inherent challenges and dangers associated with operating the first-generation Harrier.
