How do I open Bluetooth on AirPods Pro?

Published in AirPods Bluetooth 3 mins read

To connect your AirPods Pro via Bluetooth, the process depends on the device you're trying to connect to. Here's a breakdown for common scenarios:

Connecting to Apple Devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac):

Normally, your AirPods Pro will seamlessly connect to your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac) if:

  • Bluetooth is already enabled on your Apple device: Go to Settings -> Bluetooth (on iOS/iPadOS) or System Preferences -> Bluetooth (on macOS) to ensure Bluetooth is toggled on.
  • Your AirPods Pro are already paired with your Apple ID: If you've previously paired your AirPods Pro with one Apple device signed in to your Apple ID, they should automatically connect to other devices signed in with the same Apple ID.

If automatic pairing doesn't work:

  1. Open the AirPods Pro case near your unlocked Apple device. A setup animation should appear on your device.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions. If prompted, tap "Connect."

Connecting to Non-Apple Devices (Android, Windows, etc.):

  1. Enable Bluetooth on the non-Apple device: Navigate to the Bluetooth settings on your Android phone, Windows PC, or other device, and ensure Bluetooth is turned on.

  2. Put your AirPods Pro in pairing mode:

    • Place your AirPods Pro in their charging case.
    • Open the lid of the case.
    • Press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case. Hold it for about 5 seconds, or until the status light inside the case starts flashing white.
  3. Select your AirPods Pro in the Bluetooth settings: On your Android phone, Windows PC, or other device, scan for available Bluetooth devices. Select your AirPods Pro from the list.

  4. Complete the pairing process: Follow any on-screen prompts to finalize the connection. You may need to confirm a pairing code.

Connecting to Apple Vision Pro:

  1. Go to Settings on your Apple Vision Pro.
  2. Select Bluetooth.
  3. Put your AirPods Pro in pairing mode: With your AirPods in the charging case, open the lid, then press and hold the setup button on the back of the AirPods case for about 5 seconds, or until the status light flashes white.

Essentially, "opening" Bluetooth on your AirPods Pro means putting them in pairing mode so another device can find and connect to them. On Apple devices, this often happens automatically if they are associated with the same Apple ID.
