How to Charge AirPods Pro?

Published in AirPods Charging 3 mins read

To charge your AirPods Pro, you primarily charge the case, which in turn charges the AirPods themselves. Here's how:

Charging the AirPods Pro Case

There are two main ways to charge your AirPods Pro case: using a cable or wirelessly.

1. Charging with a Cable (Lightning or USB-C)

This is the most common method for charging your AirPods Pro case.

  • Locate the Charging Port: Find the Lightning or USB-C port on the bottom of your AirPods Pro case.
  • Connect the Cable:
    • AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation with Lightning): Use a Lightning to USB cable and connect the Lightning end to the case.
    • AirPods Pro (2nd generation with USB-C): Use a USB-C to USB-C cable and connect the USB-C end to the case.
  • Connect to a Power Source: Plug the other end of the cable (USB or USB-C) into a USB power adapter that is plugged into a wall outlet or into a USB port on a computer.
  • Charging Status: The status light on the front of the case indicates the charging status:
    • Amber: The case is charging.
    • Green: The case is fully charged.

2. Charging Wirelessly (Only Available on Some Models)

AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation) support wireless charging via a Qi-compatible charging mat.

  • Place on Charging Mat: Place the AirPods Pro case (with the AirPods inside) with the status light facing up on a Qi-compatible wireless charging mat.
  • Charging Status: The status light on the front of the case will light up to indicate charging. If it doesn't, adjust the position of the case on the charging mat.

Important Considerations:

  • AirPods Inside the Case: The AirPods will charge while inside the charging case as long as the case has a charge.
  • Charging Time: It generally takes about an hour to fully charge the AirPods Pro and their case.
  • Optimized Battery Charging: AirPods Pro use optimized battery charging, which learns your daily charging routine to wait to finish charging past 80% until just before you need to use them. This helps to prolong the lifespan of the battery. You can toggle this feature within your iPhone settings under AirPods > Battery.
  • Power Adapter: You can use any standard USB power adapter, such as the one that came with your iPhone or iPad.
  • Checking Battery Levels: You can check the battery levels of your AirPods Pro and the case on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your AirPods Pro are always ready to use.
