How do I turn off automatic ear detection?

Published in AirPods Settings 1 min read

You can disable Automatic Ear Detection for your AirPods through your device's settings. Here's how:

  1. Wear your AirPods: Make sure your AirPods are in your ears and connected to your iPhone or iPad.

  2. Open Settings: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.

  3. Select AirPods: Near the top of the screen, you should see the name of your AirPods. Tap on it. If you don't see them, ensure they are connected properly.

  4. Toggle Automatic Ear Detection: Look for the "Automatic Ear Detection" option and tap the toggle switch to turn it off. When the switch is grey, Automatic Ear Detection is disabled.

By turning off Automatic Ear Detection, your AirPods will continue to play audio even when they are not in your ears. Keep in mind that this may affect battery life, as the AirPods will not automatically pause when removed.
