How can I control AirPods Pro?

Published in AirPods Usage 3 mins read

You can control your AirPods Pro primarily using the force sensor located on the stem of each AirPod. Here's a breakdown of the controls:

Stem Controls:

These are the most common ways to interact with your AirPods Pro using the force sensor on the stem.

  • Play and Pause Audio: Press the stem once.
  • Play the Next Track: Double-press the stem.
  • Play the Previous Track: Triple-press the stem.
  • Answer a Call: When you receive a call, press the stem once.
  • End a Call: Press the stem once during a call.
  • Activate Siri: Press and hold the stem until you hear a chime.

Siri Commands:

You can also use Siri for hands-free control. Make sure "Hey Siri" is enabled in your AirPods settings (Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods > "Hey Siri").

  • "Hey Siri, play some music."
  • "Hey Siri, turn up the volume."
  • "Hey Siri, skip this song."
  • "Hey Siri, call [Contact Name]."

Volume Control:

While the AirPods Pro themselves do not have dedicated volume buttons, you have several options for adjusting the volume:

  • Siri: Use voice commands like "Hey Siri, turn up the volume" or "Hey Siri, volume down."
  • Your Device: Use the volume controls on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac.
  • Control Center (iOS/iPadOS): Swipe down from the top-right corner (or up from the bottom on older devices) to access Control Center and adjust the volume slider.
  • Lock Screen (iOS/iPadOS): Use the volume controls displayed on the Lock Screen while media is playing.

Noise Control (Noise Cancellation/Transparency Mode):

You can switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode directly from your AirPods Pro, or from your device:

  • Press and Hold the Stem: By default, pressing and holding the stem switches between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode. You can customize this action in Settings (Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods > Press and Hold AirPods).
  • Control Center (iOS/iPadOS): Open Control Center and touch and hold the volume slider. Then, tap Noise Cancellation, Transparency, or Off.
  • Settings (iOS/iPadOS): Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Tap the "i" icon next to your AirPods, then select Noise Control.

By using these controls, you can manage your audio playback, calls, Siri, and noise cancellation preferences with your AirPods Pro.
