What is type 3 albinism?

Published in Albinism 1 min read

Type 3 albinism, also known as rufous oculocutaneous albinism, is a form of albinism that primarily affects people with darker skin tones, especially those of African descent. Individuals with type 3 albinism have reddish-brown skin, ginger or red hair, and hazel or brown irises. While they experience a lack of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye color, their vision issues tend to be less severe compared to other types of oculocutaneous albinism.
