Can hot water reduce allergy?

Published in Allergy Relief 1 min read

Hot water can indirectly help with some allergy symptoms, particularly those associated with nasal congestion. It does this by generating steam, which can open up nasal passages, ease congestion, and reduce a runny nose.

However, hot water itself does not directly reduce allergies. It's the steam produced from hot water that provides temporary relief.

Here's how hot water can help with allergies:

  • Steam inhalation: Inhaling steam from a hot shower, humidifier, or boiling water can help loosen mucus and open up nasal passages, making it easier to breathe.
  • Washing bedding: Washing bedding in hot water (at least 130°F or 54°C) can kill dust mites and remove allergens, which can reduce allergy symptoms.

While hot water can be a helpful tool in managing allergy symptoms, it's not a cure. You should consult with a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment of allergies.
