What is the new treatment for allergies?

Published in Allergy Treatment 1 min read

There are several new treatments emerging for allergies, including:

  • Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT): This involves placing allergy drops under the tongue, gradually desensitizing the body to allergens. This approach has been successful for treating allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and is now being studied for food allergies. It offers fewer side effects than oral immunotherapy and becomes more effective over time.
  • Omalizumab (Xolair): This is a monoclonal antibody that was originally approved for severe asthma. It has now been approved by the FDA to reduce allergic reactions to multiple foods. Xolair works by blocking IgE, an antibody that triggers allergic reactions.
  • Epinephrine Nasal Spray (Neffy): This is the first needle-free treatment for severe allergic reactions. It's approved for use in children and adults weighing at least 30kg and provides a convenient alternative to epinephrine auto-injectors.

These new treatments offer promising solutions for allergy sufferers, and further research is ongoing to develop even more effective therapies.
