The sensory branch of the facial nerve is the sensory auricular branch (SAB).
This branch is believed to provide sensory innervation to specific areas of the ear. More specifically, it innervates:
- The posterior aspect of the lateral external auditory canal.
- The anterior concha.
While the facial nerve is primarily a motor nerve, the sensory auricular branch is the key component responsible for its sensory function.
