Sinuses are air-filled spaces in the skull. They are located behind the forehead, nasal bones, cheeks, and eyes. Healthy sinuses contain no bacteria or other germs. Most of the time, mucus is able to drain out and air is able to flow through the sinuses.
They are part of your nose and respiratory system, and they connect to your nasal passages. The air you breathe in moves through these passages, sometimes entering the sinuses.
Sinuses also help keep bacteria and other microorganisms away from your body. They produce thin mucus, draining dirt, dust, and other pollutants out of the body.
