What is the Border of Liver?

Published in Anatomy 1 min read

The border of the liver, specifically its inferior border, varies depending on age and sex.

In adult males, the lower border of the liver typically aligns with the lower margin of the thorax in the right mammillary line (the line extending downwards from the nipple). However, in women and children, this border usually projects slightly below the ribs.

This variation is due to differences in body size, anatomy, and respiratory patterns. The liver's position can also be influenced by factors such as posture and the presence of ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdomen).
