What is the jaw called?

Published in Anatomy 1 min read

The jaw is made up of two bones: the upper jaw (maxilla) and the lower jaw (mandible).

  • The maxilla forms the upper part of the mouth and supports the upper row of teeth.
  • The mandible supports the lower row of teeth and gives shape to the lower face and chin. It's the bone that moves when you open and close your mouth.

Both the maxilla and the mandible play crucial roles in chewing, speaking, and facial aesthetics.
