The smallest bone in the human body is the stapes. Also known as the stirrup, this delicate bone is located in the middle ear and works with two other bones, the malleus and incus, to transmit sound vibrations to the inner ear. Damage to the stapes can lead to partial or complete hearing loss.
The stapes is only about 3 millimeters by 2.5 millimeters in size, making it a truly tiny but essential part of our hearing system.
