How to Move Apps to SD Card?

Published in Android Apps 2 mins read

Moving apps to your SD card can free up valuable space on your device's internal storage. Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to Settings: Open the Settings app on your Android device.

  2. Navigate to Apps: Find the "Apps" or "Applications" section. The exact wording may vary depending on your device's manufacturer. It might be under "Device" or "More".

  3. Select the App: Choose the app you want to move to the SD card.

  4. Access Storage Settings: Tap on "Storage".

  5. Change Storage Location: Look for a "Change" button or an option that indicates the current storage location (likely "Internal Storage"). Tap on "Change".

  6. Select SD Card: Choose your SD card as the new storage location.

Important Considerations:

  • Not all apps can be moved: Some apps are designed to run only from internal storage for performance or security reasons. The "Change" option will not be available for these apps.

  • SD card performance: The speed of your SD card can affect the performance of apps moved to it. Use a high-quality, fast SD card for the best experience.

  • App updates: When an app that's on your SD card receives an update, it might be temporarily moved back to internal storage during the update process.

  • SD card removal: If you remove the SD card, apps moved to it will not function until the SD card is reinserted.

  • Formatting as Internal Storage: Some Android versions offer the option to format an SD card as internal storage. If you do this, the SD card becomes part of your device's internal storage and apps can be installed on it by default. However, this makes the SD card encrypted and unusable in other devices. This will NOT allow you to simply remove the card and use it in another device as a method of transferring the app.
