Where do fainting goats live?

Published in Animal Habitats 1 min read

Fainting goats, also known as myotonic goats, historically originated and continue to be found predominantly in Tennessee.

While they are now bred and kept as pets or on farms in many locations across the United States and even in other countries, their primary origin is traced back to Tennessee in the 1880s. Reports specifically mention sightings of these goats in the following five counties:

  • Marshall County
  • Giles County
  • Lawrence County
  • Maury County
  • Coffee County

Therefore, while they may exist elsewhere, the ancestral home of fainting goats is considered to be within these regions of Tennessee.
