Baby goats, also known as kids, typically weigh 2-4 pounds at birth.
While this is a general range, several factors can influence a baby goat's size:
- Breed: Different goat breeds have varying average sizes. Smaller breeds, like Nigerian Dwarfs, tend to have smaller kids than larger breeds, such as Boer goats.
- Number of Kids in the Litter: If a doe has multiple kids in a single birth (twins, triplets, or even quadruplets), each kid might be slightly smaller than if it were a single birth.
- Mother's Health and Nutrition: A healthy and well-nourished mother will generally produce healthier and larger kids.
- Prematurity: Premature kids will naturally be smaller than those born at full term.
After birth, baby goats grow rapidly, gaining weight quickly with proper care and feeding.
