Goats perceive the world in a limited range of colours compared to humans.
Understanding Goat Colour Vision
Based on research into mammalian vision, including that of goats, these animals do not see the full spectrum of colours that humans do.
- Limited Colour Perception: Many mammals like cats, dogs, rabbits, cattle, sheep, and goats can only see a small amount of colour.
- Dichromacy: These animals are mostly dichromats, meaning they can only see two colours.
- Specific Colours: Goats may only see pastel shades of blue and yellow.
- Red-Green Colour Blindness: This limited vision means they have protanopia, which is a form of red–green colour blindness. They cannot distinguish between reds and greens.
Therefore, while not seeing in black and white, a goat's view of their environment is dominated by variations of blue and yellow hues, lacking the vibrant reds, greens, and oranges we might perceive.
