How do I delete an account from my Apple Calendar?

Published in Apple Calendar 2 mins read

To remove an account from your Apple Calendar, you essentially prevent it from syncing and showing events. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Calendar App on Your Mac: Locate and open the Calendar application on your macOS device.

  2. Access Accounts Settings:

    • Go to the Calendar menu in the top menu bar.
    • Select Accounts... (or Preferences... then click the Accounts tab).
  3. Select the Account to Remove: In the Accounts window, you'll see a list of all the accounts currently syncing with your Calendar. Click on the specific account you want to remove or disable.

  4. Deselect the Calendar Checkbox: In the account details on the right side of the window, uncheck the box next to Calendar. This will stop the calendar from that account from syncing with your Apple Calendar.

Important Notes:

  • Deleting vs. Disabling: Deselecting the Calendar checkbox disables syncing for that calendar within the Apple Calendar app. The actual account (e.g., your Google account, iCloud account, Exchange account) is not deleted. You can re-enable syncing later by simply checking the box again. To permanently delete the account from your system, you would need to remove it from System Settings (System Preferences).

  • Removing the Account Entirely (Optional): If you want to completely remove the account, select the account in the Accounts window (as described above), then click the minus (-) button at the bottom of the list. Be very sure you want to do this, as it removes the account from other Apple services on your device as well (like Mail, Contacts, etc., depending on the type of account). You will likely need to re-enter your credentials to add it again.

  • iCloud Calendars: If you want to remove an iCloud calendar specifically but keep your iCloud account, you'll need to delete the calendar itself from iCloud instead of disabling the entire iCloud account. Go to iCloud.com, sign in, open Calendar, and delete the specific calendar.
