How do I change my Apple ID reset email?

Published in Apple ID Security 2 mins read

You can change the email address used for your Apple ID reset by updating your primary Apple ID email address. Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap [Your Name] at the top.
  3. Tap Sign-In & Security.
  4. Tap your Apple ID email address (the one listed as Primary).
  5. You may be prompted to answer your security questions or enter your Apple ID password.
  6. Tap Edit.
  7. Enter your new email address.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify the new email address. Apple will send a verification email to your new address; you will need to click the link in that email to confirm the change.

Once you verify the new email address, it will become your new Apple ID, and that is what will be used to reset your password going forward.

Important Considerations:

  • Verification is Key: You must verify the new email address for the change to take effect. Make sure you have access to the new email inbox.
  • Previous Email: The previous email address may be removed, depending on Apple's current policies. You may also see an option to keep the old email address as a rescue email.
  • Two-Factor Authentication: If you have two-factor authentication enabled (which is strongly recommended), you'll need access to one of your trusted devices or phone numbers to make these changes.
  • If you can't sign in: If you are unable to sign in to manage your Apple ID, you may need to go through the account recovery process: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204921
