Getting directions in Apple Maps on your iPhone is a straightforward process. This guide covers the basic steps to initiate a route using the app, based on simple touch gestures or searching for a location.
Getting Started with Directions
To begin navigating, the first step is to open the Maps app on your iPhone.
Two Ways to Initiate a Route
Once the app is open, you have two primary methods to tell Apple Maps where you want to go and start getting directions:
1. Using Touch and Hold
- Touch and hold anywhere on the map to drop a pin or select a point of interest.
- After the location details appear, tap Directions.
2. Using the Search Field
- Alternatively, you can enter an address or the name of a place (like a restaurant or store) in the search field at the top of the screen.
- Once you've found the location, select it from the results, and then tap Directions.
Viewing Your Route
After tapping Directions using either method, Apple Maps will display available routes. You can then choose the route that works best for you.
- To start turn-by-turn navigation, tap Go.
- To see a list of each turn and instruction, tap Steps.
By following these steps, you can quickly set up navigation to your desired destination using Apple Maps on your iOS device.
