You can connect your Apple Watch to the internet via Wi-Fi when it's not connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth. Here's how:
Connecting to Wi-Fi on Your Apple Watch
-
Open the Settings app: On your Apple Watch, find and tap the "Settings" app icon (the grey gear).
-
Access Wi-Fi Settings: Scroll down and tap on "Wi-Fi." Your Apple Watch will automatically begin searching for available Wi-Fi networks.
-
Choose a Network: Tap on the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to join.
-
Enter the Password (If Required): If the network requires a password, you will be prompted to enter it. You can use Scribble (drawing letters on the screen) or, if available, the Apple Watch keyboard (on some models) to input the password.
-
Join the Network: After entering the password, tap "Join."
Important Considerations:
- 2.4 GHz Networks: Apple Watch primarily supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. While some models support 5 GHz networks, compatibility may vary. Ensure the network you're trying to connect to is compatible.
- iPhone Connectivity: Your Apple Watch typically uses the Wi-Fi connection of your iPhone when in range. Connecting directly to Wi-Fi on your Apple Watch is most useful when your iPhone is not nearby.
- Troubleshooting: If you're having trouble connecting, make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your Apple Watch, the network password is correct, and the network is functioning correctly. Restarting your Apple Watch might also resolve connection issues. You can also try "Forget This Network" and then reconnecting.
- Wi-Fi Calling: When connected to Wi-Fi, and your carrier supports it, your Apple Watch may be able to make and receive calls even if your iPhone isn't nearby.
