How do I change the controls on my Apple Watch?

Published in Apple Watch 2 mins read

You can't directly "change" the default controls on your Apple Watch in the way you might be thinking. The main interface controls, like the Digital Crown and side button functions, are fixed. However, you can customize the Control Center to add, remove, and rearrange quick access options for various settings and apps.

Here's how to customize Control Center on your Apple Watch:

  1. Open Control Center: Press the side button on your Apple Watch. This will display the Control Center.

  2. Enter Edit Mode: Scroll to the very bottom of Control Center. You will see an "Edit" button. Tap it.

  3. Customize:

    • Add Controls: Look for the "+" icons next to available controls you want to add to Control Center. Tap the "+" to add them.
    • Remove Controls: Tap the "-" icon next to a control you want to remove. Then, tap the red "Remove" button.
    • Rearrange Controls: Press and hold the controls, then drag them up or down to change their order. The order in Control Center will reflect the new arrangement.
  4. Exit Edit Mode: Once you've made your changes, tap "Done" at the bottom.

What can you control in Control Center?

Control Center provides quick access to things like:

  • Airplane Mode
  • Silent Mode
  • Do Not Disturb
  • Theater Mode
  • Water Lock
  • Flashlight
  • Audio Output
  • Battery Percentage
  • Find My iPhone
  • Walkie-Talkie (if supported)
  • Cellular Data (on cellular models)
  • And more!

Limitations:

Remember that you cannot remap the fundamental functions of the Digital Crown or side button. The side button is always used to access Control Center (and Apple Pay with a double-click), and the Digital Crown is used for scrolling and returning to the watch face. You are only customizing what is available within the Control Center interface.
