How Do I Reset an Apple Watch?

Published in Apple Watch 2 mins read

To reset your Apple Watch, you'll need to erase all content and settings through the watch's settings menu. Here's how:

Steps to Reset Your Apple Watch:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.

  2. Go to General > Reset.

  3. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.

  4. Enter your passcode if prompted.

  5. If you have an Apple Watch with cellular, you'll be given the option to either keep or remove your cellular plan.

    • Keep Plan: Choose this option if you intend to re-pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone later.
    • Remove Plan: Select this if you're giving away or selling your Apple Watch and don't want the cellular plan to remain active on the device.

Important Considerations:

  • Back Up Your Data (Optional): While resetting erases everything, any data synced to iCloud (like health data) should remain available when you re-pair the watch. However, creating a backup of your iPhone before resetting your Apple Watch is always a good practice.
  • Unpairing vs. Resetting: If you are simply changing iPhones, it's better to unpair the Apple Watch from your old iPhone first before resetting. Unpairing creates a backup automatically and cleanly removes the watch from your Apple ID. To unpair, open the Watch app on your iPhone, go to "My Watch" then select your watch and tap "Unpair Apple Watch."
