How to Plant Banana Lily?

Published in Aquarium Plant Care 2 mins read

Planting a banana lily is typically a simple process, often involving just placing the plant on the aquarium substrate.

The most common and recommended method for planting a banana lily is simply placing the plant on top of the substrate and letting its roots find their way in. This approach allows the plant to settle naturally and establish its root system within the substrate over time.

If you find that the banana lily tries to float off before its roots take hold, you have a couple of options:

  • Anchoring: You can use a plant weight or other aquarium-safe anchor to keep the plant in place on the substrate surface.
  • Slight Burial: Alternatively, you can plant it just barely into the top layer of the substrate. Burying the base of the plant about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep is usually sufficient to prevent it from floating without burying the "banana" rhizome too deeply.

Choosing the placement on the substrate allows the lily to begin anchoring itself naturally, while the slight burial or anchoring methods provide stability if needed during the initial phase.
