How do you put artificial grass together?

Published in Artificial Grass Installation 2 mins read

To join two pieces of artificial grass, follow these steps for a seamless and professional look:

Preparing the Seam

  • Unrolling: Begin by unrolling the two pieces of artificial grass, ensuring that the grass pile (the direction of the blades) runs in the same direction for both pieces. This is crucial to avoid a noticeable difference in appearance.
  • Folding: Next, fold back approximately 300mm (about 12 inches) of each piece where they will be joined. This will expose the backing for easier cutting.

Making the Cut

  • Cutting Back: To create a perfect seam, carefully cut back a minimum of three rows of tufts from each piece of grass.
    • Important: Be extremely cautious not to trim any grass blades during this process. Trimming the blades will result in a poor and visible seam. The goal is to remove the tufts so that the edges fit closely together, hiding the seam.

Joining the Pieces

  • Aligning: After cutting, carefully align the two pieces so that they fit snugly together, ensuring the seam is as tight as possible with no gaps.
  • Seaming Tape: Use a suitable seam tape to connect the two pieces. This tape is typically applied underneath the seam, adhering to the backing of each piece.

Final Steps

  • Adhering: Press the two pieces firmly onto the seaming tape to create a strong and durable bond.
  • Finishing Touches: Once the pieces are connected, brush the grass blades upwards using a stiff broom to make the seam less noticeable.

By following these steps, you can effectively join two pieces of artificial grass together for a professional-looking result.
