The stratosphere is the layer of the atmosphere that is mostly free from clouds. This is because the stratosphere has very little water vapor and dust, which are essential for cloud formation.
The air movement in the stratosphere is almost horizontal, which further contributes to the absence of clouds. Most high-flying air routes are situated within this layer.
