To export multiple individual audio tracks from your Audacity project into separate files, you use the Export Multiple function. This allows you to quickly save each track or labelled section as its own file.
Here are the steps to export multiple tracks separately in Audacity:
- Initiate the Export Process: Navigate to the Audacity menu bar and click on File > Export > Export Multiple....
- Select Destination Folder: In the "Export Multiple" dialog box, click the Choose... button (or Browse... depending on your operating system) to select the folder where you want to save your exported audio files.
- Choose Export Format: From the Format drop-down menu, select your desired audio file type (e.g., WAV, MP3, Ogg Vorbis).
- Define File Splitting: Under Split Files Based On:, choose how Audacity should determine where each separate file begins and ends. Common options are:
- Labels: This is ideal if you have used Label Tracks to mark specific sections you want to export individually (e.g., individual songs in a recorded album side, spoken word segments). Each label will define a separate file.
- Tracks: This option exports each audio track in your project as a separate file. If you have multiple tracks layered (like vocals, instruments, effects), each will become its own distinct audio file.
- Configure File Naming: Under Name Files:, select the method Audacity will use to name the exported files. Options typically include using label names, track names, or sequential numbering. You can often add a prefix as well.
- Start Exporting: Once you've configured these settings, click the Export button.
- Edit Metadata (Optional but Common): If you chose a format that supports metadata (like MP3), a Metadata Editor window will appear for the first exported file. You can fill in information like Artist, Track Title, Album Title, etc.
- Confirm Metadata: After reviewing or editing the metadata for a file, click the OK button within the Metadata Editor to proceed to the next file's metadata or finish the export process. Do not click the 'Save' button in the Metadata Editor itself, as that is for saving metadata templates.
Audacity will then process and save each separate file based on your splitting and naming selections into the chosen destination folder.
