To adjust your AirPods Max, you primarily use the Digital Crown and also your connected device for volume and other settings.
Adjusting Volume
The primary way to adjust the volume on your AirPods Max is using the Digital Crown:
- Turn the Digital Crown up to increase the volume.
- Turn the Digital Crown down to decrease the volume.
If the volume isn't increasing as expected, make sure to:
- Check the volume on your connected device (iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc.). Sometimes the device's volume is set low, limiting the maximum volume you can achieve with the AirPods Max.
- Clean the Digital Crown. Dirt or debris can sometimes interfere with its function.
Customizing Digital Crown Direction
You can customize which direction you turn the Digital Crown to increase or decrease volume:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Find your AirPods Max in the list of devices and tap the "i" icon next to them.
- Tap Digital Crown.
- Choose your preferred direction for volume up and volume down.
Other Adjustments
While the Digital Crown handles volume and playback, remember you can adjust other settings via your connected device:
- Noise Cancellation/Transparency Mode: Press the Noise Control button to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode. You can also control this from Control Center on your iPhone/iPad.
- EQ Settings: Adjust the sound equalization in the Music app settings on your connected device.
