How To Reverse Audio in Ableton Live

Published in Audio Processing Ableton 2 mins read

Reversing audio in Ableton Live, including stereo audio clips, is a simple process performed within the Clip View.

To reverse an audio clip or a specific section of it in Ableton Live:

  1. Locate the Audio Clip: Find the audio clip you want to reverse in your arrangement or session view.
  2. Open the Clip View: Double-click on the audio clip. This will open the Clip View panel at the bottom of the Ableton Live window.
  3. Select the Section (Optional): If you only want to reverse a specific part of the clip, select that piece of the audio within the Clip View display. If you want to reverse the entire clip, no selection is needed.
  4. Click the Reverse Button: As demonstrated in the reference, simply go down to the bottom section of the Clip View. You will find a "Reverse" button (often depicted with arrows pointing backward). Click this button.

Steps for Reversing an Audio Clip:

  • Double-click the audio clip to open its settings.
  • In the Clip View, select the desired portion or leave unselected for the whole clip.
  • Click the "Reverse" button.

It's as easy as that! Ableton Live immediately processes the clip (or the selected section) and reverses its playback direction. This applies to both mono and stereo audio clips, reversing both channels simultaneously in the case of stereo.

This process is commonly used for creative effects, sound design, or simply playing a sound backward.
