How Do I Stop Hearing My Own Voice?

Published in Audio Troubleshooting 2 mins read

To stop hearing your own voice echoing through your speakers or headphones, disable the "Listen to this device" setting in your sound settings. Here's how:

  1. Right-click the Speaker Icon: Locate the speaker icon in your taskbar (usually in the bottom-right corner of your screen). Right-click on it.

  2. Open Sound Settings: Select "Open Sound settings" from the menu that appears.

  3. Navigate to Input and Choose Microphone: In the Sound settings window, find the "Input" section. Ensure your correct microphone is selected.

  4. Click on Device Properties: Click on "Device properties" (or a similar option like "Device properties and test") associated with your microphone.

  5. Go to the "Listen" Tab and Uncheck "Listen to this device": A new window will open. Look for a tab labeled "Listen." If you see the checkbox "Listen to this device" ticked, uncheck it.

  6. Apply Changes: Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

By unchecking "Listen to this device," you're preventing your computer from playing back the audio it receives from your microphone. This eliminates the echo or feedback you're hearing.
