How Do I Add a File Location in AutoCAD?

Published in AutoCAD Files 2 mins read

To add a file location in AutoCAD, you need to modify the Support File Search Path in the Options dialog box. Here's how:

  1. Open the Options Dialog Box: Type OPTIONS in the command line and press Enter, or navigate to Options through the AutoCAD menu (usually under the application menu in the top-left corner).

  2. Navigate to the Files Tab: In the Options dialog box, click on the "Files" tab.

  3. Expand the Support File Search Path: In the Files tab, locate and expand the "Support File Search Path" node by clicking the "+" sign next to it.

  4. Add a New Location: With the "Support File Search Path" node selected, click the "Add..." button on the right side of the dialog box. This will add a new, empty line to the list of search paths.

  5. Browse and Select the Folder: Select the newly added line, then click the "Browse..." button. Navigate to the folder you want to add to the search path and select it. Alternatively, you can manually type the full path to the folder.

  6. Apply Changes: Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes and close the Options dialog box.

AutoCAD will now search the specified folder when looking for support files, such as custom hatch patterns, linetypes, blocks, and other necessary resources.
